Schedule

Afternoon/Evening shift working hours 12:30pm-9:00pm. Will rotate every third weekend and holidays. 24 hours weekly.

Responsibilities
  • Collect and preserve blood samples and certain other body fluids for analysis.
  • Assist in daily workload.
  • Comply with PPE guidelines.
  • Perform basic dermal and venipuncture collection.
  • Maintain compliance with established processes: turn‑around time expectations, specimen handling, documentation.
  • Accommodate patient and laboratory needs by professionally responding to requests for flexibility in duties, schedules, and staffing.
  • Document orientation, training, and education to ensure employee competence.
  • Complete organizational and department competencies 100% of the time.
  • Read and understand new procedures and revisions.
  • Answer telephones, take messages, forward information or calls to appropriate staff.
  • Identify problems and initiate follow‑up as necessary with Phlebotomy Leadership to ensure accurate, timely laboratory services.
  • Communicate efficiently and professionally per customer service protocol.
  • Participate in Continuing Education – required annual hours met.
Job Requirements Education
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
  • Participate in mandatory in‑services and continuing education.
Experience
  • 6 months of phlebotomy experience that qualifies for ASCP certification, or approved equivalent, preferred.
  • OR
  • Completion of a structured, ASCP‑approved phlebotomy training course, or equivalent, such as LPN, RN, or MA with experience in routine venipuncture and dermal puncture.
License/Certifications

None required, but preferred: ASCP certification, LPN, RN.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Willing to adjust schedule/shift and pick up open shifts to meet patient needs.
Physical Requirements

Medium work – exerting up to 50 pounds of force. Physical activity includes: climbing, kneeling, sitting, balancing, crouching, typing, lifting, pulling/pushing, carrying, hearing, reaching, repetitive motions, standing, stooping/bending, twisting, walking.

  • Not related: explosives, electrical shock, radiation, mechanical moving parts.
  • Rare: equipment/machinery/tools.
  • Frequent: chemical agents (toxic, corrosive, flammable, latex), biological agents (blood borne viruses), physical hazards (noise, temperature, lighting, wet floors, sharps).
