Recreational Therapist - Full Time - Days

Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, 933 E Pierce St, Council Bluffs, IA

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm. Rotating weekend work required.

Provide recreation activities to help clients who suffer from illness or disability.

• Interview process, observations, collaborating with the patient to assign an intervention and both 1:1 and group participation in order to plan care.
• Completion of Therapeutic Recreation (T.R.) assessments within 72 hrs of admission of all assigned programs.
• Documents daily through anecdotal charting to monitor patients' progress on Therapeutic Recreation (TR) interventions and behaviors observed during TR sessions (1:1 and groups).
• Attend scheduled multidisciplinary team meetings and provide Therapeutic Recreation intervention information to a member of the team prior to the team meeting to be placed on the Multidisciplinary Treatment Plan.
• Completion of all multidisciplinary treatment plans with appropriate TR interventions and signatures for each patient's caseload.
• Schedules, coordinates and carries through consistently all Therapeutic Recreation groups and 1:1s assigned to caseload.
• Groups and 1:1s are planned to provide opportunity for the patient to work on treatment plans, goals and interventions.
• Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the patient as outlined in the Age Specific Criteria to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment.
• Conduct Therapeutic Recreation (T.R.) groups and 1:1s designed to meet individual needs.
• Makes cost effective purchases and decisions for scope of therapy; complete check requests within a week of purchase.
• Maintains accountability for continued professional growth to deliver quality patient care; must obtain Continuing Education Units (CEUs) required for licensure.
• Supervises pet therapy on unit.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

• Education: Requires Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited college or university.

  Certifications:
  
  Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire;
  Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) required within 6 months of hire.
• Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills; ability to multi-task and prioritize; ability to learn and utilize computer skills required for department and hospital information systems.
• Physical Requirements: Medium work; exerting up to 50 pounds of force. Includes occasional and frequent physical activities as listed in the job details.
