Job Summary
The Clinical Dietitian provides medical nutrition therapy in compliance with current Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) Standards of Practice (SOP) and Standards of Professional Performance (SOPP).
- Conduct nutrition assessment in the five domains of nutrition assessment as documented in the International Dietetics and Nutrition Terminology Reference Manual:
Standardized Language for the Nutrition Care Process (IDNT). - Identify specific nutrition diagnoses, documenting using PES statements.
- Develop nutrition strategies/plans of care and create prescription plans in conjunction with patients, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Implement and communicate nutrition plans to the interdisciplinary team, ensuring interventions are delivered and actions carried out.
- Monitor and evaluate indicators and outcomes related to nutrition diagnoses, goals, and intervention strategies to determine progress toward desired outcomes, and revise interventions as needed.
- Integrate the Standards of Practice and Standards of Professional Performance into practice, self‑assessment, and professional development.
- Utilize evidence‑based research as the foundation for practice.
- Provide nutrition education to patients, families, and caregivers prior to discharge through counseling and training materials.
- Pursue opportunities (education, training, credentials) to advance practice in accordance with laws and regulations.
- Share current, evidence‑based nutrition information with other clinical dietitians, interns, medical students, allied staff, and providers to facilitate learning and development.
This is a casual/PRN position.
Qualifications Education- Bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Human Nutrition or equivalent required.
- 1–2 years previous clinical experience with patients throughout the aging continuum preferred.
- Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) board – required within 3 months of hire.
- Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapist (LMNT) in Nebraska – required within 3 months of hire.
- Licensed Dietitian (LD) in Iowa – required within 3 months of hire.
- Knowledge of The Joint Commission requirements.
- Knowledge of the current Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Nutrition Care Process.
- Planning, delegation, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to perform nutritional calculations based on body weight, age, lab values, and clinical status.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and electronic medical record documentation.
- Strong verbal communication skills for positive interaction with staff and patients.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Interpretation of lab results related to patient nutritional status.
- Reading, writing, and comprehending various written reports and documents.
- Ability to transport to other campus and/or work‑related locations within a reasonable timeframe.
- Medium Light Work – exerting up to 35 pounds of force.
- Frequently performed tasks include sitting, speaking, and keyboarding.
- Occasionally performed tasks include balancing, carrying, and lifting.
- Constantly performed - hearing and seeing.
- Not related: chemical agents (toxic, corrosive, flammable, latex), biological agents (primary airborne and blood borne viruses) for jobs with patient contact, physical hazards (noise, temperature, lighting, wet floors, outdoors, sharps), equipment/machinery/tools, explosives, electrical shock/static, radiation (both ionizing and non‑ionizing), mechanical moving parts/vibrations.
