Chief Nursing Officer; CNO – Behavioral Health

Position Overview

Were seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to lead the nursing operations of a dedicated behavioral health hospital. This executive role is responsible for strategic leadership, clinical excellence, and the day-to-day oversight of nursing staff and patient care. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in psychiatric nursing, a strong leadership background, and a commitment to high-quality, patient-centered behavioral health services.

• Bachelors degree in Nursing or commensurate experience required
• Masters degree in Nursing or Mental Health Nursing strongly preferred
• Active RN license and eligibility to practice in Iowa
• Minimum of six years of RN experience (ten or more years preferred)
• At least two years of behavioral health experience as an RN in an inpatient psychiatric setting
• Minimum of three years of progressive nursing leadership or administrative experience
• Prior experience as a CNO or Director of Nursing strongly preferred
• Experience in a freestanding psychiatric hospital strongly preferred
• Ability to provide direct patient care as needed
• Experience leading recruitment, hiring, and staff development initiatives
