Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Ortho RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring at least 1 year of experience and an Iowa or Compact RN license.

Details
  • Acute care Med/Surg Ortho unit in a Level 3 trauma facility with 28 beds plus 22 overflow
  • Patient ratio of 1:5
  • Common diagnoses include total knee/hip/shoulder replacements, fractures, COPD, diabetes, wounds, IV infusions, dementia, oncology, sepsis, pneumonia, CHF, and substance abuse
  • RNs are not required to titrate drips
  • Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit at a 1:10 ratio
  • Cardiac monitors located at the main nurses station; no requirement to read own strips
  • 12-hour night shifts,  and , with self-scheduling
  • Weekend requirement of every third weekend (Friday and Saturday considered the weekend for nights)
  • Required to float first within scope
  • Uses EPIC EMR
Requirements
  • Active RN license
    - Iowa or Compact required
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Driver's license required at time of submission for radius verification
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
  • Unit focuses on hourly rounding and bedside shift report
  • Looking for candidates who are adaptable, self-directed, and open to change
  • Primary patient population includes low to middle income individuals, with some patients experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, or addiction history
  • Navy blue scrub color required
  • Orientation includes a first week of classroom training followed by one 12-hour shift on the unit
  • RNs must pass a pass/fail open-book exam on skills learned during orientation, requiring a 90% score to continue in the assignment
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
  • Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
  • RTO must be submitted upfront, and additional RTO requests will not be approved after submission
