Field Service Tech I, Switchgear - Omaha

Position Summary

A Field Technician is responsible for assisting in start‑up commissioning, integration, emergency service and troubleshooting of Vertiv electrical switch gear 480

VAC/15

KVAC, including PDU, ATS, PDC, circuit breakers, protective relays, PLC, meters and other automated devices as well as mechanical repairs and modifications under the direction of senior technicians. The FT must establish, promote, and maintain excellent rapport with all customers, co‑workers, sales representatives, and others as appropriate. Communication with CRC, Supervisor, and direct manager must be maintained continuously.

Responsibilities
  • Rely on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Perform a variety of work related tasks
  • Capable of working under general supervision but largely independently
  • Maintain certifications per Job Progression table
Technical
  • Render on‑site and phone assistance to customers
  • Communicate with National Technical Support on equipment issues
  • Perform work related tasks according to company guidelines for scheduled maintenance
  • Implement Field Change Notices according to published guidelines
  • Keep current on Safety Bulletins, Safety Field Change Notices, Field Change Notices, and Service Tips
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • ASMET required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • 2+ years of hands‑on electronic experience or field services
  • Training in electrical theory and technologies
  • Familiarity with electrical / electronic test equipment and fundamentals
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical line diagrams and blueprints
  • Regularly lift at least 50 pounds
  • Vision abilities required (close, distant, color, peripheral, depth, focus adjustment)
  • Standard computer skills including MS Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Foster a Customer‑First Mindset

  • ASEET – preferred
Physical & Environmental Demands
  • Medium Lifting (30–45 ib)
  • Heavy Lifting (over 50 ib)
  • Frequent standing, kneeling, crawling, stooping, bending, twisting, climbing (stairs, ladders)
  • Frequent driving (car, van, truck)
  • Extreme cold (below 32°)
  • Extreme heat (above 100°)
  • Noise level (medium/high need to shout)
  • Working around moving machinery (fork‑lifts, tractors)
  • Protective equipment required (earplugs, gloves, eyewear, respirator, mask, etc.)
  • Work outdoors (no effective protection from weather)
Time Travel Required
  • 80% travel
  • Job assignments will typically be long‑term assignments ranging from 4 weeks to 12+ months duration based upon the scope and schedule of the project
  • If assigned to a project not located in the vicinity of a Technician’s residence, travel will consist of a field rotation that includes three consecutive weeks on the customer site followed by one week of a service break in their home office where the Technician is expected to work their minimum of 40 hours on billable tasks and administrative duties as necessary
Drug Test and Background Check

Due to the safety‑sensitive aspect of the role, candidates are required to successfully pass a drug test prior to employment. In addition, you will also be required to complete and pass a pre‑employment background check.
