Part Time Bus Driver

Job Description

The Bus Driver is responsible for the operations of various types of buses that transport students and other passengers to and from designated locations. Drivers typically work without direct supervision and are fully responsible for the safety of their passengers.

• Demonstrate IWCC’s core mission, vision, and values.
• Transport students and other passengers to and from designated destinations, overnights, and weekends, adjusting and planning travel routes as necessary.
• Make routine checks and inspections of the bus and equipment for proper operation, safety, and maintenance.
• Observe and follow all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing commercial transportation.
• Follow school district guidelines regarding student management and discipline; report incidents to proper personnel.
• Maintain required records of bus usage and reports of operation.
• Drive commercial transportation vehicles with air brakes.
• Perform minor maintenance and safety checks of commercial vehicles.
• Evacuate students during an emergency.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must have and maintain a valid CDL B or higher/passenger, air brake endorsement, Self‑Certified Non‑Excepted Interstate, and DOT Medical card.
• Minimum of 6 years of general driving experience preferred.
• Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of commercial transportation vehicles.
• Knowledge of federal and state traffic laws and regulations.
• Knowledge of bus evacuation procedures.
• Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
• Ability to present information verbally and in writing professionally.
• Understand written instruction and complete appropriate documentation as needed.
• Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures, including lockout/tag‑out.
• Wear/use PPE at all times when needed.
• Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows‑based environment.
• Work cooperatively with management, co‑workers, internal/external customers, and vendors.
• Ability to pass a background check, have a valid U.S. driver’s license, and a good driving record.
• Ability to pass a drug screen and pre‑employment physical if applicable.

• Operation of a Class B motor vehicle requiring frequent upper‑body movement; repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers to grip both firm and light objects, primarily on the right side to operate the door opener.
• Frequent extended periods sitting and using hands to operate bus equipment.
• Vision required to drive and observe work performed.
• Hearing and speaking required to communicate with students, parents, and other staff.
• Frequent reaching to clean windshields, adjust mirrors, and open/close windows.
• Frequent bending, stooping, twisting, turning, reaching, carrying, pulling, pushing, climbing bus steps, and extensive sitting.
• Exposure to hazards or physical risks requiring basic safety precautions.
• Ability to drive company‑owned or personal vehicle and operate lifts and machinery.
• Exposure to adverse weather and traffic conditions, extreme temperatures, vehicle exhaust, odors, poor ventilation, and intense noise while driving IWCC bus.
• Exposure to working around machinery with moving parts.
• Limited exposure to extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
• Frequent outdoor work in weather such as rain, snow, sun, wind, and other forms of weather.
