Job Title:
1.0 FTE Grades K-9 Learning Support Teacher (temporary)
Please note this temporary position will end on June 30, 2027 or upon return of the incumbent.
Learning Support teachers work with students with low incidence challenges, behavioral/mental health issues and learning disabilities. They play an active role in the identification and assessment of students, provide support to classroom teachers to facilitate the inclusion of students in the regular classroom, assist classroom teachers with the development of I.E.P.s and collaborate with classroom teachers to design or implement instructional strategies or adapt/modify instructional content or materials.
They also provide direct remedial instruction.
Responsibilities
Provide direct instructional support to students across the special needs spectrum and those with learning challenges. Administer Level B assessments. Support classroom teachers in developing, implementing and monitoring Individual Education Plans and Learning Plans for non-designated students. Prepare adapted and modified curriculum. Apply early literacy interventions. Use educational software such as Kurzweil to support student learning. Develop positive behavior supports using functional assessment practices.
Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team, including school district professionals, paraprofessionals, parents and community agency staff. Work as a member of the School Based Team, case manage and problem solve. Provide training for, organize and direct the work of educational assistants and assist principals with scheduling. Demonstrate successful teaching experience at the elementary level and an understanding of elementary curriculum K‑9.
Qualifications
Degree in Special Education (e.g., post‑degree diploma program or Special Education concentration)
Ability to provide support for students across the special needs spectrum
Ability to provide instructional support for students with learning challenges
Ability and qualifications to administer Level B assessments
Ability to support classroom teachers with developing, implementing and monitoring Individual Education Plans and Learning Plans for non‑designated students
Experience in preparing adapted and modified curriculum
Knowledge of early literacy interventions
Experience with educational software to support student learning such as Kurzweil
Ability to develop positive behavior supports using functional assessment practices
Ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers to design or implement instructional strategies or adapt/modify instructional content or materials
Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team (including school district professional and paraprofessional staff, parents and community agency staff)
Ability to work as a member of the School Based Team
