Position: Nursing Unit Assistant at Island Health

This position operates at a patient care area in collaboration with the Vancouver Island Health Authority. Under general supervision, you will process physician orders, coordinate patient appointments, and manage communications within the unit. This role is pivotal in maintaining patient charts and ensuring that operational tasks are fulfilled effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

• Transcribe and process physician orders accurately

• Coordinate patient appointments and test arrangements

• Assemble and maintain patient charts in the system

• Serve as a communication link between departments

• Answer calls and direct visitors to appropriate areas

Requirements:

• Grade 12 education with medical terminology knowledge

• Completion of a Nursing Unit Clerk program

• One year of relevant experience or equivalent

• Keyboarding speed of 50 WPM

• Effective verbal and written communication skills
