JOB SUMMARY

Adheres to the competency guidelines within the standards of practice as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP) and current legislative scope of practice. Reports to the Director of Care or designate. 12:30-07:00, .73 FTE

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Training;

Graduation from a recognized program for Registered Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current full practicing licensure with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP):

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides leadership in day-to-day operations:
  • Supervises staff and assigns work
  • Utilizes knowledge and clinical expertise in gerontological nursing by being a clinical resource to the care team and by providing support to staff on care-planning, assessment, skills development, and adherence to policies.
  • Assists in monitoring and coaching safe work practices
  • Covers out of hour scheduling for all sick calls.
  • Coordinates resident care delivery with a person-centered philosophy:
  • Ensures completion of staff assignments
  • Provides support to staff in prioritizing and planning care delivery
  • Coordinates admissions and transfers
  • Contributes to the development and revision of standards , policies, and procedures that impact resident care
  • Provides leadership:
  • Promotes a team approach and collaborative work environment
  • Mentors leadership skills in others
  • Serves as a professional role model
  • Mediates, negotiates, and facilitates problem solving as issues arise.
  • Assumes the in-charge role in Emergencies until support arrives.
  • Focuses on Quality of care and

    Risk management:
  • Promotes and facilitates a safe environment for residents and staff
  • Promotes dementia – sensitive and person –centered philosophy of care
  • Addresses and documents risks and quality issues as they arise
  • Follows up and contributes to resolution of risk management issues
  • Participates in implementing and evaluating quality improvement initiatives
  • Follows Nursing Standards of Practice, Accreditation standards, and GVL policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required
JOB SPECIFICATIONS

A. Education , Training and Experience
  • Current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of BC
  • Graduation from a recognized program for Registered Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Experience with dementia care and palliative care
  • 3-5 years recent related experience
  • Current CPR Level 1
  • Computer skills including RAI competency
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to provide nursing care to residents and families in a professional manner consistent with policies, procedures, standards, and regulations in the following areas:
  • Assessment- MDS, cognitive, physical, functional, and psychological
  • Effective communication skills oral, written, and computer-based
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to monitor and guide care provided by care aides
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, standards and ability to access them
  • Knowledge of principles of palliative care
  • Knowledge of principles of dementia sensitive care
  • Current pain management theories
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and coordinate your own work as well as that of others
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively employ human relations skills including conflict resolution
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Pay: $40.21-$52.71 per hour
