Tier 1 Construction, Civil Engineering & Infrastructure Head of Commercial Work Winning Lead – Senior Leadership Opportunity Intersect Global Ltd is recruiting on behalf of a leading Tier 1 UK contractor for a senior Head of Commercial Work Winning position. Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, this is a key leadership role responsible for commercial governance, tender assurance and work-winning across the group.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Commercial Director, Head of Commercial, Senior Commercial Manager or Work Winning professional with a strong background in construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, highways or other complex contracting environments. You will play a key role in shaping commercial strategy, reviewing major tenders and ensuring the group's work-winning activity delivers sustainable growth, appropriate risk management and strong commercial returns.

About the Role As Head of Commercial Work Winning, you will lead commercial governance and bid assurance across strategic tenders and major business opportunities. Working closely with divisional commercial, estimating, operational, legal and procurement teams, you will provide senior commercial expertise throughout the tender process – from initial opportunity assessment through to contract award. Key responsibilities will include:
Leading commercial governance and bid assurance across major tenders and strategic opportunities. Reviewing commercial proposals, pricing strategies and tender submissions. Assessing commercial, contractual and financial risk throughout the work-winning process. Challenging assumptions around pricing, risk, margin and delivery strategy. Reviewing construction contracts and identifying onerous or commercially unacceptable terms. Supporting negotiations and developing strategies to secure favourable contractual outcomes. Providing market, pricing and commercial insight to estimating and bid teams.

Monitoring tender performance and feeding lessons learned into future bids and commercial strategy. Developing and strengthening commercial governance, controls and best practice across the group. Working collaboratively with legal, procurement, operational and project delivery teams. Delivering commercial training and supporting the development of commercial capability across the business. Presenting commercial recommendations and tender assessments to senior and board-level stakeholders. Commercial & Contract Experience You will have a strong understanding of commercial management, construction contracts, tendering and work-winning within a Tier 1 contracting environment.

Ideally, you will have experience of:
Major construction, civil engineering or infrastructure projects. Capital delivery programmes, frameworks, alliances and term maintenance contracts. Standard and bespoke construction contract forms. Commercial risk assessment and mitigation. Tender governance and bid assurance. Pricing strategy, margin protection and commercial performance. Contract negotiations and identification of onerous contractual terms. Developing commercial processes, procedures and governance frameworks. Leadership & Stakeholder Management This is a highly influential senior leadership position, requiring the ability to operate confidently at group and board level.
