What is the job role?

Customer Services Meet and Greet

Currently, we have a permanent full‑time vacancy within our busy Customer Services Team. Our business opening hours are 09:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday, although shift times are 08:30–17:00.

You will answer customer enquiries, signpost, and support customers in our service centre. There will also be requirements to cover various reception points within the city on a rota basis. Customer Services is the face of the council, and you will be the first port of call for a broad range of enquiries relating to using and paying for council services.

In this role you will support people face‑to‑face.

You will need excellent communication skills, be able to deal with a diverse range of customers and work in a fast‑paced environment. Ideally, you will have experience of working in a face‑to‑face environment or supporting customers accessing services, although training will be given.

If you aren’t sure or have some questions, we’d be happy to talk to you; call Bianca Smith on  during office hours for an informal conversation.

Keen to join the team? Please complete an application form, tell us about your previous experience and where you have used your skills to shine.

The closing date for applications is midnight on 30th July 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an assessment day on 10th August 2026. Those who are successful at the assessment stage will then be invited to a competency‑based interview on 18th August 2026.

All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.

Applicants that have been through a Customer Services Assessment Centre and have been unsuccessful in the last 6 months need not apply.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and, as such, appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?
  • Care about delivering an excellent service to every internal and external customer
  • Excellent communication skills, confident in face‑to‑face, telephone and written activity
  • Ability to support a diverse customer base
  • Ability to deliver in a fast‑paced environment
  • Ability to respond to change positively
  • To be flexible to the needs of the service
  • An understanding of the range of services provided by the council.
