Locum Consultant in Fetal Medicine

Hospital: University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust

Provide comprehensive obstetric and fetal medicine services across Coventry and Warwickshire, delivering high‑quality care with specialist expertise in intrapartum care.

Deliver clinical leadership within obstetric services, working with modern matrons and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, patient‑centred care. Maintain clinical responsibility for patients, promote collaborative working and support the development of clinical guidelines and standards.

Contribute to service improvement through audit, governance, quality forums and research, ensuring learning is implemented in practice. Support skills drills and promote continuous learning within the department.

Provide education and training responsibilities including teaching and supervising medical students, supporting postgraduate education and contributing to the supervision and appraisal of trainee doctors in obstetrics and gynaecology.

Maintain professional competence through Continuing Professional Development, participate in appraisal processes, comply with information governance requirements and adhere to Trust policies and professional standards.

Maintain effective relationships with colleagues, primary care partners and external agencies to support integrated care and promote open communication across services.

The post holder will primarily be based at the University Hospital. The job plan will be based on 10 programmed activities and will include fixed sessions incorporating labour ward duties, obstetric on call, antenatal clinics, and fetal medicine sessions. Scheduling of clinical sessions may change as part of job planning, and the job description will be revisited with the Clinical Director and Group Manager when the successful candidate has been in post for three months.

Actively participate in the clinical governance systems that are in place and be involved in the administration and management functions of the hospital.

• Full GMC registration
• MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
• RCOG accredited sub‑specialist in fetal maternal medicine
• RCOG ATSM High Risk Pregnancy
• Further Higher Degree
• CCT in obstetrics or equivalent (equivalence confirmed by GMC by date of interview)
• Entry to the GMC Specialist Registrar or eligibility for entry within six months of the date of the AAC

• Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
• Experience in maternal and fetal medicine
• Experience of undergraduate teaching
• Experience of supervising junior medical staff in intrapartum care
• Qualification in medical education

• Understanding of the clinical governance process
• Publication in peer‑reviewed journals
• Experience in risk management

• Ability to undertake multi‑disciplinary audit
• Demonstrate ability to undertake audit projects in specialty area
• IT literacy and presentation skills
• Commitment to development and adherence to departmental guidelines and protocols
