Locum Consultant in Fetal Medicine | University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust

Interviews are scheduled to take place on 18th August 2026.

The successful candidate will work in collaboration with clinical colleagues, to deliver a comprehensive obstetrics service to patients in the Coventry and Warwickshire communities with particular emphasis on fetal medicine. The department would welcome candidates with sub specialty training in maternal and fetal medicine.

The post holder will provide high quality obstetric services in collaboration with the Midwifery Service, Clinical Commissioning Group, Secondary and Tertiary Care colleagues.

The post-holder would be expected to actively participate in the clinical governance systems that are currently in place.

There will be appropriate involvement in the administration and management functions of the Hospital. The scheduling of clinical sessions may change as part of job planning, and the job description will be revisited with the Clinical Director and Group Manager once the successful candidate has been in post for 3 months.

The post holder will primarily be based at the University Hospital. The job plan will be based on 10 programmed activities and will include fixed sessions incorporating labour ward duties, obstetric on call, antenatal clinics and fetal medicine sessions.

To provide a comprehensive obstetric service across Coventry and Warwickshire, delivering high-quality care with specialist expertise in intrapartum care.

The post holder will provide clinical leadership within obstetric services, working with Modern Matrons and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, patient-centred care. Responsibilities include maintaining clinical responsibility for patients, promoting collaborative working, and supporting the development of clinical guidelines and standards.

The role contributes to service improvement through audit, governance, quality forums, and research, ensuring learning is implemented in practice. The post holder will support skills drills and promote continuous learning within the department.

Education and training responsibilities include teaching and supervising medical students, supporting postgraduate education, and contributing to the supervision and appraisal of trainee doctors.

The successful candidate will maintain effective relationships with colleagues, GPs, and external agencies to support integrated care and strong communication across services.

The post holder will maintain professional competence through Continuing Professional Development, participate in appraisal processes, comply with information governance requirements, and adhere to Trust policies and professional standards, contributing to the delivery of a safe, high-quality maternity service.
