SEN Teaching Assistant. Calm 1:1 Support Role

This SEN Teaching Assistant role is about being a steady, reassuring presence for a Year 4 pupil returning to mainstream school after a short period of Local Authority support. The focus is on helping the pupil feel safe, understood, and able to re-engage with learning at their own pace.

The school is based in Coventry, CV2 and the role runs from 8:30am to 3:30pm each day. Initially, the placement will run for a minimum of two weeks, with the potential to continue on an ongoing basis if the placement is successful.

This is a deliberately structured role, with classroom-based support in the mornings and focused 1:1 support in the afternoons.

The Role

Morning Support. Classroom-Based

* Supporting in a Year 5 classroom environment

* Providing general classroom assistance and small group interventions

* Helping maintain calm routines and smooth transitions at the start of the day

* Working alongside existing staff who support morning registration and routines

Afternoon Support. 1:1

* Providing 1:1 support to a Year 4 pupil with autism and SEMH needs

* Supporting the pupil through lessons and transitions

* Using a calm, relationship-led approach to reduce anxiety and build trust

* Helping the pupil remain settled and engaged in class

* Focusing on emotional stability and access to learning, rather than academic pressure

Across the day, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to maintain consistency and ensure the pupil experiences a safe, predictable school day. You will not be expected to manage challenging situations alone.

What You Will Bring

* Recent experience supporting children or young people with SEND

* A calm, patient approach, especially during moments of dysregulation

* Confidence working both in the classroom and 1:1

* An interest in autism, SEMH, or child development

* The ability to follow guidance and work as part of a wider school team

* A positive, encouraging manner that focuses on strengths

What's Being Offered

* A clearly structured SEN Teaching Assistant role with shared responsibility

* Support from experienced school staff throughout the day

* A realistic focus on emotional stability and engagement, not pressure

* Consistent hours within a mainstream primary school setting
