WMG seeks an Assistant Professor to join our Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing Group. The role offers an opportunity to develop your academic career within a highly interdisciplinary research environment, contributing to research, teaching, and industrial engagement in sustainable materials, manufacturing and systems‑level sustainability.

• Develop research in strategic systems modelling for sustainability transitions, employing systems modelling, game theory, life cycle assessment, operations research and decision science.
• Translate complex socio‑economic and environmental challenges into robust research programmes and practical decision‑support tools.
• Collaborate with academic, industrial and policy partners to navigate trade‑offs and inform responsible, ethical and sustainable futures.
• Contribute to teaching across WMG programmes, supervise students, and support curriculum development.
• Pursue external research funding and contribute to the wider academic life of the department.
• Work collaboratively across disciplines and sectors, combining analytical rigour with real‑world impact.

• PhD or equivalent professional experience in a relevant area such as systems engineering, operations research, sustainability science, environmental systems or closely related disciplines.
• Strong background in strategic systems modelling for sustainability transitions and experience with game theory, operations research, decision science or related analytical approaches.
• Ability to translate complex models into clear, credible and practical decision‑support tools for industrial, societal or policy decisions.
• Excellent publication record with national recognition in your specialist field and experience developing externally funded projects.
• Experience of teaching, supervision and/or lecturing at university level, and capability to contribute to curriculum development and deliver high‑quality teaching.
