About The Role
This role provides an opportunity for an experienced practitioner to lead the provision of Physical Education specialist input to the University’s highly regarded Initial Teacher Education programmes. The successful candidate will shape the subject pedagogy of beginning teachers on our courses, both local and international. The role will also provide opportunities to contribute to the wider course provision through teaching on the Professional Enquiry and Professional Practice modules, marking of academic work and selection of PGCE applicants.
All colleagues in the Centre for Teacher Education participate in a regular programme of professional development and peer learning. The post also provides wider development opportunities across the University.
The ideal candidate will have experience of teaching at the secondary age range and an ability to model good teaching to others. Experience of mentoring and teacher education in a school or university context would demonstrate the complex skills needed in the core aspects of this work. Candidates will need to demonstrate very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both in university and as a visitor in school to quickly establish the confidence of students and colleagues in a range of settings.
The role also requires strong time‑management skills and self‑managing a complex portfolio of work allocation.
The post holder will join an experienced team with a record of innovation and professional development in the discipline. As a member of staff in the School of Education, Learning and Communication Sciences the role will offer opportunities to collaborate in research and scholarship in teacher development and education more widely.
