Long Term Futures are recruiting for a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a large, inclusive primary school in Coventry. The school benefits from a well-established SEND provision, including three specialist SEN Hubs and dedicated sensory rooms, designed to support pupils with a range of additional needs in a structured and nurturing environment.
The SEN Hubs are organised according to pupils' primary areas of need, including Communication and Interaction, Social, Emotional and Mental Healthand Autism/This role will involve supporting pupils both on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them access learning, develop communication skills and regulate their emotions throughout the school day.
The Role
- Support pupils within specialist SEN Hub provisions across the school.
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for children with Autism, ADHD, SEMH and communication needs.
- Use communication strategies such as PECS and Makaton to promote engagement and independence.
- Implement behaviour support plans and emotional regulation strategies tailored to individual pupils.
- Support children with sensory processing needs through the use of specialist resources and sensory spaces.
- Assist pupils in accessing structured learning activities and targeted intervention programmes.
- Promote positive behaviour, confidence, social interaction and independence.
The Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD and challenging behaviour.
- Strong understanding of communication and interaction needs.
- Experience working within SEN provisions, specialist schools or mainstream settings with high SEN needs.
- Team Teach, Positive Handling or equivalent behaviour management training is highly desirable.
- Thrive Practitioner training or experience would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of Makaton and/or PECS communication systems.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach to supporting children with additional needs.
- Ability to build strong and trusting relationships with pupils, staff and families.
