Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate Roman history, providing pastoral and administrative support.
  • Organise and deliver the first‑year core module Roman Culture and Society
    , including study skills sessions.
  • Convenor and teacher of an Honours‑level optional module each year (first year:
    The Transformation of Roman Society Under Augustus
    ).
  • Develop and teach a Roman History module of your own devising in the second year, in consultation with the Head of Department.
  • Offer Latin‑text classes relevant to Honours modules for students with advanced Latin.
  • Mark examinations and assessed work, provide constructive feedback and supervise teaching activities.
  • Track students’ progress, attend staff meetings, Open Days and participate in outreach with local schools and the public.
  • Act as personal tutor to students and undertake administrative duties as requested by the Head of Department.
About you
  • Research specialism in Roman imperial history and the ability to teach Roman history, including through texts in the original Latin.
  • Experience in classroom teaching, marking, supervising and delivering constructive feedback.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Desire to develop your own teaching materials within the subject prescriptions.
