We are seeking an experienced and passionate Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Coordinator (SENCO) to lead and enhance inclusive practice across our apprenticeship programmes.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to learners by ensuring they receive the support, guidance and adjustments needed to achieve their full potential.

About the Role

As SENCO, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for SEND provision across the organisation, ensuring learners receive high-quality support throughout their apprenticeship journey. Working closely with tutors, assessors, employers and external agencies, you will promote a culture of inclusion, ensure compliance with relevant legislation and quality standards, and drive positive learner outcomes.

Key Responsibilities SEND Leadership & Compliance
  • Develop and implement the organisation's Inclusion Strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with SEND legislation, the SEND Code of Practice and Equality Act 2010.
  • Maintain SEND policies, procedures and support processes.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leaders on learner progress and outcomes.
Learner Support
  • Lead the identification, assessment and review of learners with SEND.
  • Oversee Additional Learning Support (ALS) and reasonable adjustments.
  • Coordinate support plans and monitor their impact.
  • Work with learners, employers, families and external agencies to secure positive outcomes.
  • Coordinate Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan arrangements where applicable.
Curriculum Support & Staff Development
  • Support delivery teams to implement inclusive and accessible learning programmes.
  • Advise on adaptive teaching approaches, assistive technologies and reasonable adjustments.
  • Develop and deliver SEND-related CPD for staff.
  • Provide coaching and specialist guidance to tutors, assessors and managers.
Quality Improvement
  • Analyse learner attendance, retention, achievement and progression data.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of SEND provision and identify areas for improvement.
  • Support inspections, audits and funding compliance activities.
  • Ensure learner voice contributes to service development.
Learner Wellbeing
  • Work closely with safeguarding and wellbeing teams to support vulnerable learners.
  • Promote learner participation, independence and personal development.
  • Ensure learners with SEND can engage fully in all aspects of apprenticeship life.
About You Essential
  • Significant experience supporting learners with SEND within further education, apprenticeships or other post-16 settings.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • SEND Code of Practice
    • Equality Act 2010
    • Reasonable adjustments and inclusive practice
  • Experience developing and implementing learner support plans.
  • Strong communication, coaching and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to analyse data and demonstrate the impact of SEND provision.
  • Relevant SEND qualification or substantial SEND leadership experience.
Desirable
  • Level 5 Specialist Teaching Qualification or equivalent SEND-related qualification.
  • Experience supporting apprentices and workplace-based learners.
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and accessibility tools.
  • Experience with Additional Learning Support (ALS) funding and compliance.
  • Experience with in vocational or technical education settings.
