Overview

Who We Are… Agratas is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons. We design, develop and manufacture high-quality, high-performance, sustainable batteries for the mobility and energy sectors. We are a scale-up business with a start-up mentality backed by a well-established parent company. The UK business headquarters is in the Midlands with a battery manufacturing facility in Somerset and R&D facilities in Abingdon and Coventry.

Our battery technology roadmap focuses on world-class solutions for multiple applications, industrialising high energy density and long-lasting battery cells, and developing the next generation of battery technologies.

Purpose of the Role As a Product Excellence Senior Engineer
, you will provide critical technical oversight to ensure product and process robustness, working at the interface of Cell Design, Manufacturing Process Engineering, and Engineering Quality. You will work across the full APQP lifecycle to identify, assess, and mitigate process-related risks that impact product performance, safety, and durability. You will support the development of DFMEAs and PFMEAs, partnering with Cell Design and Process Engineering to ensure failure modes are understood, controlled, and traceable through robust process and quality documentation.

The role involves resolving process-driven product issues using structured root cause analysis and data-driven problem solving, delivering sustainable corrective actions. You will drive consistency, clarity, and traceability across engineering artefacts to establish a single, coherent technical baseline from development through production. This position suits an engineer who thrives in cross-functional environments, enjoys problem-solving, and aims to build robust, scalable processes that ensure product quality.

This is a hybrid role based in our Coventry office.

Key Responsibility Areas
  • Act as the primary technical interface between cell design, process engineering, and engineering quality teams to ensure robust product and process quality across all APQP phases.
  • Support the technical development, review and maintenance of DFMEAs and PFMEAs, ensuring alignment with AIAG V5 methodology and linkage to Control Plans and process controls.
  • Identify, assess, and resolve process-related product concerns, applying structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, root cause analysis) to drive effective and sustainable corrective actions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to identify potential failure modes and process risks, ensuring timely mitigation and verification prior to production.
  • Drive consistency, accuracy, and traceability across engineering documentation, including templates, FMEAs, procedures and drawings.
  • Ensure engineering documentation remains aligned with design intent, manufacturing capability, and quality requirements throughout product and process changes.
  • Support APQP deliverables, PPAP readiness, and audit activities by providing technical input and evidence.
  • Promote continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to strengthen documentation, process capability, and cross-functional ways of working.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or quality engineering, with involvement in process development, validation, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Proven capability in PFMEA development, using AIAG V5 methodology.
  • Working knowledge of ISO and IATF standards, with experience supporting audits, PPAP activities, and compliance requirements.
  • Practical application of problem-solving methodologies and data-driven corrective action implementation.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma and statistical tools (SPC, Cp/CpK, MSA) to assess process capability and risk.
  • Understanding of lithium-ion battery technologies, including key failure modes and degradation mechanisms, especially process-related risks.
  • Effective communication skills and experience working in cross-functional teams, supporting design, manufacturing, and quality teams.
Desirable
  • PhD related to lithium-ion batteries.
  • Experience working with or for…
