Job Title: System Engineering Expert – Chassis Motion Control (Steering Systems)

Location: Coventry/Bicester/Woking

Job Purpose

The System Engineering Expert – Chassis Motion Control is responsible for coordinating and managing all R&D-related technical activities for chassis motion control within chassis systems, with a primary focus on steering systems.

The role includes ownership of system functions from early function definition and requirement engineering through integration, validation, and release testing. The position requires close collaboration with internal stakeholders, customers, Tier 1 suppliers, and sub-suppliers to ensure successful delivery of motion control systems and functions across vehicle platforms.

Key Responsibilities System Function Development
  • Define and deliver lateral chassis system behavior functions related to motion control.
  • Shape and define user stories, system functions, and requirements to meet customer expectations and vehicle performance targets.
  • Translate feature-level requirements derived from sources including:
  • Vehicle Stability
  • Automation / ADAS
  • Functional Safety
  • Power Management
  • End-of-line (EOL) testing
  • Manufacturing
Software and System Delivery
  • Create and manage software delivery plans aligned with feature maturity and program timelines.
  • Ensure software delivery meets deadlines through effective cross-functional collaboration with internal teams and Tier 1 suppliers.
  • Ensure proper integration of steering control systems into the vehicle E/E architecture.
  • Lead cross-functional verification activities to ensure compliance with system specifications.
Integration & Testing
  • Support commissioning of steering control systems on:
  • Laboratory environments
  • Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) actuator rigs
  • End-of-line (EOL) testers
  • Support testing activities across the development lifecycle.
  • Proactively lead resolution of bugs and ECU-related issues.
  • Ensure all issues are captured, tracked, and resolved through:
  • Root cause analysis
  • Corrective action implementation
  • Perform risk management, change management, and gap analysis.
  • Report project status, risks, and progress across all levels of management and external stakeholders.
Supplier & Business Development
  • Build and maintain a broad network of Tier 1 suppliers within chassis motion control.
  • Support strategic supplier consultation for vehicle platforms across different OEMs.
  • Contribute to internal know-how development and support customer engagements for new business opportunities.
Qualifications & Technical Competencies Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.

Experience
  • 8+ years of experience in steering systems engineering and chassis motion control within an OEM or Tier 1 automotive supplier.
  • Strong experience in:
  • Simulation and system testing
  • Motion control function definition and application
  • Experience with development and validation environments including:
  • Model-in-the-loop (MiL)
  • Software-in-the-loop (SiL)
  • Driver-in-the-loop (DiL)
  • Vehicle testing
  • 5+ years of experience working in cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Proven experience launching series production projects involving motion control functions across systems such as:
  • Traction Control
  • Brake Systems
  • BEV and PHEV drive trains
  • Suspension systems
Technical Knowledge
  • Deep understanding of automotive development processes and methodologies.
  • Experience with safety-relevant hardware, software, and system evaluation methods.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Functional Safety (ISO 26262)
  • Automotive Cybersecurity
  • Over-the-Air (OTA) updates
  • System integration and validation processes.
  • Strong intercultural communication skills with global and matrix stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving and change management capabilities in dynamic environments.
  • Strong analytical and structured thinking.
  • Team-oriented with modern leadership and collaboration skills.
  • Diplomatic communication and stakeholder management.
