Senior Technician

Overview

Senior Technician – Highways Team (Traffic Management & Road Safety). Assist with traffic management, accident investigation, traffic regulation orders, and general highway safety measures to keep the city moving safely and efficiently.

• Assist with investigations and responses to enquiries from MPs, councillors, the public and partner organisations.
• Help develop solutions to traffic, road safety and wider highway issues.
• Support accident data analysis and the design of measures to reduce collisions.
• Contribute to the management of the MVAS speed compliance programme.
• Assist with coordinating works on the highway to minimise disruption.
• Carry out site inspections, signage and lining audits, and road safety audits.
• Support delivery of the Local Network Improvement Plan.
• Work with planning and development teams to ensure safe, high‑quality highway designs.
• Prepare technical reports, plans and documentation.
• Engage with communities, members and stakeholders to promote a customer‑focused service.

• Good understanding of traffic management, road safety and how the highway network operates.
• Ability to analyse technical data and turn it into practical solutions.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships at all levels.
• Confidence to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience producing clear technical reports and advice.
• Proficiency with IT systems, including Microsoft 365.
• Experience in highways, transport or infrastructure projects.
• Collaborating with different teams and external organisations.
• Managing projects with multiple stakeholders.
• Using data to support decisions in a customer‑focused environment.
