Finance Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a dynamic and highly performing financial management team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

As a finance manager, you will provide a high standard of service to budget holders across all aspects of finance and service delivery. Ideally you will have experience within a large Acute Trust or other NHS setting and be motivated towards attaining a CCAB qualification.

Main Duties

Work within the Group Finance Team to provide comprehensive financial advice to Service and Speciality managers, enabling the achievement of financial balance and contributing to the business planning process and service developments.

  • Advise on the interpretation of monthly financial reports to ensure managers have accurate financial information for decision-making.
  • Deliver a programme of financial training for managers to maintain a high level of financial management skills and raise awareness within the Trust of the financial regime of both the NHS and the Trust.
  • Deputise for the Senior Head of Group Finance or Deputy Head of Group Finance as appropriate.
  • Support the Senior Head of Group Finance in providing data to the Corporate Planning team and monitoring performance to support commissioning.
  • Obtain and evaluate financial information for business cases, and complete financial aspects of Capital Bid forms on behalf of the Group/Speciality/Department.
  • Maintain professional knowledge to ensure advice is based on latest NHS/Trust or professional body information.
  • Coordinate the work of the Finance Assistants where appropriate.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with finance function colleagues, other Trust officers and members of the public, ensuring work is carried out efficiently, to a high standard, and delivers a professional service focused on high customer satisfaction.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • CCAB Intermediate or Finalist
  • Evidence of CPD or active personal development

Experience

  • Experience with in a large public sector organisation and dealing with budget holders at various levels.
  • Senior acute trust financial experience, within a devolved divisional/directorate structure, working with activity and waiting list information, and staff management.

Knowledge

  • Trust financial regime and NHS costing & pricing.
  • Other topical NHS issues.
Skills & Abilities
  • Intermediate level use of Microsoft Office products (basic macro level).
  • Highly numerate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Initiative and ability to work independently within agreed parameters.
  • Ability to adhere to tight deadlines and work as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in database use and XQuery reporting.
  • Influencing and negotiation skills.
