Job Description
Police Staff Investigations Officer - Adult Investigation Team based at Willenhall Police Station, Coventry. One full-time vacancy. The role is part of the Public Protection Unit and involves secondary investigations of higher risk domestic abuse cases from handover to conclusion. The candidate must be well organised, professional, able to manage risk, develop and complete investigation plans, conduct high-quality suspect interviews, and build rapport with vulnerable victims.
A dedicated safeguarding team, digital media investigation team and post-charge file build team will provide support.
- Prepare, plan and carry out suspect and witness interviews following guidelines.
- Take written statements from witnesses to achieve best evidence in criminal proceedings.
- Ensure enquiries are carried out expeditiously in accordance with policy and legislation.
- Secure and preserve evidence through thorough investigation, including retrieval, retention and review of CCTV.
- Conduct house-to-house enquiries and complete relevant actions.
- Comply with all relevant legislation and guidance, including the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996, the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Major Incident Room Standardised Administrative Procedures.
- Utilise ICT systems to research, produce and submit statements, reports and intelligence logs.
- Obtain and secure evidence and exhibits, maintaining integrity, continuity and preventing contamination.
- Research and maintain up-to-date knowledge of current enquiries, attending and contributing to briefings.
- Complete all documentation, including actions and reports, in a timely and professional manner.
- Prepare and submit case files of evidence ensuring evidential integrity and working alongside CPS and other agencies.
- Attend court and other hearings, as required, to give evidence.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role and band/grade.

Hours of Work and Flexibility- Working hours hrs with a 3x3x3 shift pattern (earlies, lates and evenings).
- Allowances include 14.41% weekend allowance and 4.2% unsocial hours allowance.
- Post holder may be required to work outside these hours, including bank holidays and short notice work.
- The role may require force-wide duties and travel out of the force area.
Applicants must hold a full driver licence. Successful applicants will need to pass recruitment vetting and counter-terrorism clearance and a medical assessment, which may include a drug or hearing test.
