About the service

The Community Autism Support Service (CASS) is a partnership between Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind, Autism West Midlands and Act for Autism. This role sits within CWWMind. The service delivers groups, one to one support and peer support to all age individuals training for autistic people, parents, carers and professionals and has a new navigation helpline.

About the role

The all-age Community Autism Support Service is looking for compassionate and enthusiastic Sessional Support Workers to join our team. You’ll be supporting autistic individuals to build connections in a welcoming, non-judgemental environment.

Our social group sessions are all about creating safe spaces where people can be themselves, have fun, and feel supported, without pressure to conform to social norms.

The sessional support worker role involves working alongside an experienced full-time Support Worker with CASS.

  • Mondays (Warwick) – term time only | 3:30–7:45pm | Children & Young People (7–18)
  • Wednesdays (Nuneaton) – term time only | 3:30–7:45pm | Children & Young People (7–18)
  • Thursdays (Coventry) – term time only | 3:30–7:45pm | Children & Young People (7–18)
  • Alternate Saturdays (Coventry) | 9:00am–1:00pm | Adults (18+)
Key responsibilities
  • To receive referrals and effectively manage contact of people in the service
  • To provide direct support to autistic adults through group support sessions
  • To take responsibility for safeguarding issues and concerns identified involving relevant staff and other agencies where appropriate
  • To work towards increasing community integration and attaining greater independence within the community
  • To collect and input data on outcomes and support needs associated with the service including record keeping, and case studies as appropriate
  • To ensure the rights of the service user are upheld and promoted including through advocacy and enabling them to have a voice in the operation of the service provided
  • Experience of providing support involving mental health or wellbeing needs
  • A genuine interest in supporting autistic individuals
  • Reliability, empathy, and a flexible approach
  • Experience, either lived or through work, of autism
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal, non-verbal and written
  • Ability to travel to the group venue
  • A driving licence and access to a car (with valid business insurance)

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
