Community Nursery Nurse
Location:
South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust, Coventry. Closing date: 20 July 2026.
- Undertake delegated work from the health visitor to improve health outcomes for children, young people, and families through 1:1 support, group work, home visits, nursery and school settings, and telephone advice.
- Provide developmental assessments and support for health needs using ASQ and SOGS tools; deliver brief interventions and feedback to the health visitor.
- Support parents/carers in managing toilet training, bed wetting, behaviour management, and parenting advice, and facilitate parenting groups.
- Maintain accurate and timely activity and outcome data to meet key performance indicator targets set by the Trust or local authority.
- Apply current child protection guidelines, identify children who may need protection, and report concerns to the health visitor in line with Coventry Safeguarding Children Board policy.
- Assist the team with health promotion initiatives, including attending open baby clinics and promoting the childhood immunisation programme.
- Respond to general enquiries from parents, carers, and school/nursery staff, directing them back to the health visitor when appropriate.
- Serve as a resource for nurseries and parents/carers, providing information on health initiatives such as healthy eating.
- Adhere to standards and guidelines for health visiting, confidentiality, and record keeping, using secure information technology systems.
- Participate in statutory and mandatory training, clinical supervision, and team/locality meetings; support induction programmes for new staff.
- Engage in clinical audits and benchmarking to improve service delivery.
- Promote positive team working, effective communication, and positive relationships with other agencies and professionals.
- Foundation degree, Assistant Practitioner / NVQ Level 3 in early years care, BTEC in early years, or equivalent.
- Completed Common Assessment Framework training or willingness to undertake training.
- Willingness and commitment to undertake training as required for the role.
- Minimum two years’ experience working with children and families.
- Experience in providing health advice to parents/carers and other agencies (e.g., education staff).
- Understanding of health promotion activities that promote positive outcomes for children and young people.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and competency in using social media (Twitter, Facebook).
- Knowledge of the role of the school nurse team in promoting health and wellbeing.
- Understanding of confidentiality requirements in all aspects of departmental work.
- Understanding of safeguarding vulnerable children, young people, and adults.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Good interpersonal skills and communication ability with colleagues, other professionals, and families.
Job Requirements
- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle to undertake the community role.
- Willingness to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.
- Legal entitlement to work in the UK.
- Prepared to work between 8 am and 8 pm, including weekends if required.
- Non‑smoker while on duty.
The post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required to verify no previous criminal convictions.
Salary: £28,392 to £31,157 per annum, pro rata.
