As the principal teaching hospital for Warwick Medical School, we work in close partnership to develop innovative programmes in clinical research.
We are seeking highly motivated and professional individuals with a flexible approach to working and a desire to further develop the ultrasound service.
Key aspects of the role- Supporting a 7‑day ultrasound service, including weekends and bank/public holidays, in line with service requirements.
- Working within a dynamic and forward‑thinking team committed to excellence in patient care and service development.
- HCPC‑registered Sonographers who hold an international ultrasound qualification.
- Direct access candidates who have completed a CASE‑accredited BSc in Medical Ultrasound and are either RCT‑registered or actively working towards registration.

Main dutiesThe Imaging department is seeking an enthusiastic sonographer to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will have opportunity to train, mentor and develop other staff to work to high standards. We are a modern department, fast paced, dynamic and vibrant with an interesting and challenging case load, especially in the in‑patient departments. The service covers general ultrasound and a variety of sub‑specialties including MSK, paediatrics, vascular and interventional.
The ultrasound service is provided across 3 sites – University Hospital Coventry, Hospital of St Cross and the Coventry City Centre – and will expand into the Community Diagnostic Centre in 2026.
- Perform ultrasound examinations and capture high quality diagnostic images, in line with national and departmental protocols.
- Carry out ultrasound procedures/examinations and prepare independent clinical reports, following departmental protocols.
- Prioritise patient welfare and safety, adapting techniques to individual patient needs.
- Discuss findings with patients where appropriate.
- Provide expert clinical advice and support the multidisciplinary team within UHCW NHS Trust and regional Trusts.
- Be responsible for operational supervision and management of an allocated clinical area, assessing and managing workflow efficiently.
- Participate in request validation, vetting and justification as per departmental protocols.
- Verify patient identification and documentation, ensuring examinations follow imaging protocols.
- Assess image quality, initiate corrective actions and escale abnormalities to clinicians per radiology protocols.
- Take responsibility for professional conduct, acting as a role model and fostering team growth.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of ultrasound protocols, promoting best practice through evidence‑based research.
- Participate in the departmental Quality Assurance program to ensure efficient operation of equipment and compliance with best practice.
