The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust operates a chemotherapy suite at Kingston Hospital. The unit is a busy day‑care facility providing care and support to patients with a wide variety of cancers. It offers a modern and pleasant environment to ensure comfort and a relaxed setting throughout the patient’s pathway.
Main duties of the job- Deal with all new patient chemotherapy referrals from clinicians, ensuring that the first chemotherapy treatment is scheduled within Cancer Waiting Times targets.
- Document all telephone conversations with patients in the Electronic Patient Records.
- Provide full administrative and clerical support to the Medical Day Unit team (e.g., faxing, photocopying, shredding, typing letters).
- Plan patient treatment and unit capacity efficiently, considering factors such as staff rota, pharmacy turnaround times, and availability of blood results.
- Book chemotherapy prescribing clinic and treatment appointments for all patients receiving chemotherapy.
- Track chemotherapy prescriptions from confirmation to release of treatment, liaising with pharmacy regarding chemotherapy releasing status and keeping patients and nursing staff informed.
- Work closely with the Nurse Co‑ordinator and Pharmacy team to take proactive measures ensuring patients’ chemotherapy is always available in time for their scheduled treatment.
- ELC (European Computer Driving Licence) or equivalent
- NVQ Customer Care
- Experience of working in a healthcare environment.
- Understanding of working with patients who are critically and chronically ill.
- Good interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work as part of a team.
- Patience and understanding of patients’ needs.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Evidence of commitment to customer care initiatives.
- Awareness of patient confidentiality.
- Experience working with computers and keyboard skills.
- Flexibility to meet service needs.
All patient‑facing staff are expected to receive an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
