As a GP practice pharmacy technician, you will work under the supervision of our GPs, will be a registered healthcare professional who is responsible and accountable for your own accurate and safe practice. You will receive ongoing training and development about all aspects of practice based prescribing and effective administration.
In this position, you will support patients to get the most from their medicines through EPS requests within EMIS Web, Accu Rx driven interactions including medication reviews and protocol-led switches, while improving repeat prescribing and promoting initiatives to reduce risk and medicines waste.
Main duties of the jobMain duties of the job
- Review EPS requests within EMIS Web to support practice in streaming general prescription requests and allow GPs to prescribe safely.
- Support the practice in providing medication reviews and achieving Quality Prescribing and Medicines Service (QPMS) and Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) targets.
- Promotion of two-monthly Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) and online ordering.
- Support the practice multi-disciplinary team to ensure efficient medicines optimisation processes are being followed.
- Implement efficient ordering and return processes and reduce medication wastage.
- Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within GP practices, care homes and other primary care settings.
- Undertake patient facing and patient supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use, through shared decision-making, including Accu Rx driven interactions with patients.
- As determined by the practice, support medication reviews and medicines reconciliation for new patients, including care home patients and synchronising medicines for patient transfers between care settings, linking with local community pharmacies.

Today, these team members support clinical reviews, clinical audits, workflow, and quality improvement making them an essential part of modern primary care pharmacy teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Medicines reconciliation and optimisation
- Discharge summary reviews and medication alignment
- Support for Structured Medication Reviews (SMRs) within scope
- EPS and ERD facilitation to streamline digital prescribing
- Assistance with chronic disease management plans
- Service evaluation, audit participation, and quality improvement
- Health promotion and patient education initiatives
- Training and mentorship for clinical and non-clinical staff
- Repeat prescription management
- Supporting utilisation of electronic repeat dispensing
- Must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
