About
The Role
You’ll play a pivotal role in delivering fair, robust and high‑quality investigations that support a consistent and trusted employee relations service across the University.
In this role, you will lead on a portfolio of complex and sensitive investigations, including staff complaints and grievances, allegations of misconduct, bullying and harassment, discrimination, safeguarding concerns and other high‑risk matters requiring formal investigation. You will be responsible for producing clear, balanced and evidence‑based reports that support fair and timely decision‑making.
You’ll work closely with colleagues across People Partnering, Conduct & Resolution, Legal Services and recognised Trade Unions, ensuring investigations are thorough, compliant and aligned with best practice guidance from bodies such as CIPD, UUK and the OIA. A key part of the role will be supporting quality assurance, strengthening investigative capability across the team, and contributing to continuous improvement in our processes, policies and practice.
This is a varied and influential role, offering the opportunity to shape standards, coach others and contribute to institution‑wide learning. You will be exposed to highly sensitive and complex situations, requiring sound judgement, resilience and a calm, professional approach.
About YouThis position would suit an experienced and confident employee relations or higher‑education professional with strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to operate independently while contributing to a collaborative and supportive team culture. You will be adept at managing competing priorities, maintaining high standards of documentation and compliance, and presenting findings clearly to a range of internal and external stakeholders — including appeal panels and, where required, employment tribunals.
