School Caretaker

Smile Education is recruiting an experienced Site Assistant to start immediately at a large secondary school in the Coventry area. This is a temporary position expected to continue until the end of the academic year.

The role offers a full-time working pattern of 37 hours per week:
Monday to Thursday 6:00am–2:00pm and Friday 6:00am–1:30pm, with a 30‑minute unpaid break each day.

• Supporting the day‑to‑day maintenance and operation of the school site
• Carrying out general repairs and maintenance tasks across the premises
• Assisting with health and safety checks, site inspections, and compliance procedures
• Supporting the management and monitoring of building systems within a modern new‑build school
• Ensuring the school site remains safe, secure, and well‑maintained at all times
• Assisting with contractor management and site access where required
• Maintaining accurate records relating to maintenance, compliance, and health & safety
• Responding promptly to maintenance issues and site requests
• Working collaboratively with colleagues while also being able to work independently

• Previous experience working within a School Site Team or as a School Caretaker in a secondary school setting (essential)
• Experience working within a large school environment
• Good understanding of compliance procedures and health & safety requirements on a school site
• Experience managing or monitoring technological systems within a modern building environment
• Strong maintenance and practical repair skills
• Organised, reliable, and able to use initiative effectively
• Good time management and the ability to prioritise workload
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Current Enhanced DBS Certificate
• Fully vetted and able to start immediately
• Ideally located within a reasonable commuting distance of Coventry
