A Vacancy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Trauma and Neurosciences triumvirate and the wider senior nursing team as the Group Director of Nursing and AHP's (GDNA). The GDNA for Trauma and Neurosciences will have knowledge and expertise in Trauma and Neurosciences and so able to provide credible and visible leadership within the clinical group and as a key member of the corporate nursing teams.

Alongside the Group Clinical Director and Group Director of Operations, the GDNA will be responsible for the delivery of the organisational strategy, the annual operational plan and financial performance. In addition provide clear operational leadership in patient flow/discharge planning. The GDNA will lead on quality, safety and patient experience across the group, whilst also delivering corporate objectives that reflect the Chief Nursing Officer portfolio.

Responsibilities
  • Proactively and positively contribute to the successful overall performance of the Trust.
  • Proactively, meaningfully and consistently demonstrate the Trust Values in every day practice, decision making and interactions with patients and colleagues.
  • To be an ambassador for the nursing/AHP profession within and external to the trust and to uphold the NMC/HCPC standards.
  • To take a lead in the management of specific nursing functions across the Trust's group structure as agreed with the Chief Nursing Officer, Group Clinical Director and Group Director of Operations.
  • To assist the Chief Nursing Officer, ensuring there is a balance between management of nursing and AHP's within a devolved group structure, and a consistency of quality and maintenance of professional standards.
  • Make an active contribution to all major activities that take place within the Trust for corporate decision-making.
  • Become proficient in UHCWi methodology, commissioning and leading quality improvement and instilling a discipline of daily management and standard work.
  • Undertake one clinical shift per month and participate in the senior manager on-call rota, to include weekend working, as required., The Trust is committed to building an organisation that makes full use of the talents, skills, experience, and different perspectives available in our diverse society.   • Provide senior clinical leadership within the group, working alongside the designated Group Clinical Director and Group Director of Operations to deliver high quality performance.
  • Together with the Group Clinical Director and Group Director of Operations, ensure that local objectives are aligned to the trust organisational strategy and quality strategy.
  • Provide professional leadership across the group and line manage senior nurses, Modern Matrons and senior AHP staff as indicated.
  • Lead the implementation of the UHCW strategic nursing, midwifery and AHP objectives at group level and taking organisational leadership, as appropriate.
  • Provide expert clinical advice within the group reflecting NMC/AHP professional and regulatory standards, as appropriate.
  • Lead the nursing and AHP contribution to quality governance and assurance within the group and upward reporting - to include risk management, SIs, complaints and other outcome measures.
  • Ensure all nursing and AHP actions from SIs are communicated to the workforce and processes for improvement and learning are systematically implemented.
  • Together with the Group Clinical Director and Group Director of Operations, identify any outstanding issues of regulatory compliance e.g. CQC and ensure remedial / robust action plans.
  • Be responsible for the oversight of operational delivery, to include effective patient flow and discharge planning across the group services, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Establish a schedule for 'confirm and challenge' of all quality metrics (within the group) to include safety thermometer, QUESTT, quality dashboard, IPC dashboard, safeguarding activity etc.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, learning and development, using UHCWi methods and embedded through role modelling (for example), senior nurse rounding and production boards.
