Project Manager – Capital Delivery

Based out of our Finham (Coventry) or Rayneway (Derby) office and reporting to the Lead Project Manager, the Project Manager will be responsible for managing multiple capital engineering and construction schemes, delivering on key project KPIs within Severn Trent’s Capital and Commercial Services business area.

Role Objective
  • The Project Manager is accountable for the end‑to‑end delivery of significant capital projects within an agreed scope, complexity and risk profile, ensuring that time, cost, quality, safety and benefits are managed in line with Capital Delivery governance and assurance requirements.
  • The role provides independent leadership across the full project lifecycle, owning project planning, financial control, risk management, contract and supplier performance, stakeholder engagement and the successful transition of change into business‑as‑usual.
  • Working across multiple projects and sites, the Project Manager applies strong commercial, technical and safety judgement, leads engagement with internal and external stakeholders and delivery partners, and ensures that projects deliver sustainable outcomes aligned to organisational strategy and customer priorities.
  • The role also provides direction and oversight to Assistant Project Managers and Project Co‑ordinators, role‑modelling professional standards, continuous improvement and Severn Trent values.
Key Accountabilities
  • Accountable for the end‑to‑end delivery of significant projects, ensuring scope, time, cost, quality, safety and benefits are managed in line with Capital Delivery governance and assurance requirements.
  • Owns project planning and controls for assigned projects, developing and assuring integrated schedules, budgets, risk and change control, and taking corrective action within delegated authority, escalating complex or high‑risk issues to the Senior Project Manager or members of the senior team where required.
  • Leads the full contract and supplier management lifecycle for major projects, including procurement strategy, specification development, negotiation, delegated NEC Project Manager duties, performance management and contract close‑out.
  • Manages project finances end‑to‑end, including cost planning, forecasting, reporting and control, approving changes within accountability level and ensuring accurate final accounts and financial closure.
  • Owns the risk management approach for assigned projects, proactively identifying and mitigating risks, and escalating risks that exceed agreed tolerances or impact cross‑project dependencies to the Senior Project Manager or senior team.
  • Leads stakeholder engagement for assigned projects, building effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and delivery partners, and escalating issues requiring cross‑project alignment or strategic intervention to the Senior Project Manager or senior team.
  • Leads or contributes significantly to business case development for assigned investments, applying organisational strategy, investment appraisal techniques and risk assessment, with Senior Project Manager or senior team oversight for complex or high‑value proposals.
  • Accountable for the transition of change into business‑as‑usual, including readiness assessments, knowledge transfer, operational handover and benefits realisation.
  • Owns requirements management for assigned projects, leading feasibility and options appraisal and managing change control, escalating complex trade‑offs or cross‑project impacts to the Senior Project Manager or senior team.
  • Ensures safety is embedded throughout project delivery, applying H&S legislation, principles of prevention and safety risk management, and leading contributions to buildability, constructability and risk reviews.
  • Provides day‑to‑day direction and oversight to Assistant Project Managers and Project Co‑ordinator for assigned projects, role‑modelling professional standards and escalating capability or capacity issues to the Senior Project Manager or members of senior team.
