We are looking for a Packaging Technologist to join an NPD team and play a key role in driving packaging innovation, efficiency, and commercial growth. Reporting to the Senior Packaging Technologist, you will support the development of packaging solutions that meet consumer needs, customer expectations, technical requirements, and business objectives.
This is an exciting opportunity to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment where packaging performance, quality, and cost-efficiency are critical to success.
Key Responsibilities
Packaging Development & Innovation
- Manage relationships with design houses to ensure best practice and high-quality reprographics
- Brief artworks, maintain cutter guides, and coordinate packaging redesign projects
- Lead film changeovers and packaging updates on site
- Build strong supplier relationships to drive innovation and industry insight
New Product Development (NPD)
- Support new product launches with packaging trials and transit testing
- Manage packaging print timelines (FTP) and site introductions
- Troubleshoot NPD packaging challenges to ensure successful first production runs
Operational Support & Continuous Improvement
- Resolve day-to-day packaging quality issues with QA and Operations
- Improve operational line efficiency and packaging performance
- Identify and deliver packaging cost-saving and rationalisation projects
- Ensure packaging remains compliant with technical and legal requirements
- Develop and maintain accurate electronic packaging specifications
What You'll Be Responsible For
You will influence key packaging decisions including:
- Film type and specification changes
- Design modifications
- Machine setting adjustments
- Recommendations on capital investment and major specification changes
You'll also tackle real-world challenges such as:
- Reducing packaging costs without compromising quality
- Solving printing and legal compliance issues
- Managing artwork within tight lead times
- Selecting correct barrier films for shelf-life requirements
About You
- Ideally degree qualified (Packaging or Food Manufacturing related discipline)
- Packaging qualification desirable
- Significant experience in NPD packaging within food manufacturing
- Strong understanding of packaging materials, films, and print processes
- Commercially aware with a problem-solving mindset
- Confident working cross-functionally in a manufacturing environment
- Fluent in English
