The jobDue to increased demand, NP Aerospace is continuing to grow its sewing and textiles team in Coventry.
As a Sewing Machinist, also known as a Sewing Operator in NP Aerospace, you will work in a busy production cell building, assembling and sewing textile components used across our defence and personal protection products. You will follow the production plan set by your Team Leader and complete tasks in line with clear Manufacturing Instructions, quality standards and safety requirements.
This is a practical, hands‑on role where attention to detail, consistency and teamwork are essential. The work you complete will contribute directly to the manufacture of high‑quality protective products used by customers around the world.

What you'll be doingIn this role, you will complete a range of sewing, assembly and inspection activities within a busy production environment. The key duties and responsibilities are outlined below:
- Handle, prepare and set up raw materials supplied to each workstream.
- Carry out heavy duty lock stitch sewing in line with Manufacturing Instructions and required quality standards.
- Complete over locking activities accurately and consistently.
- Apply binding to textile components in line with approved methods and specifications.
- Work from supplied samples, patterns and instructions to produce components to the required standard.
- Inspect completed work and finished products, identifying and reporting any defects or quality concerns.
- Record production, quality and traceability information accurately and on time.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working area, following all health and safety and production procedures.
- Work closely with Textile Cutters and the Team Leader to ensure prepared materials and sewn components are completed in line with production priorities.
Our team embraces modern technologies, including AI-assisted tools, to wor k smarter and deliver better results. Candidates should either have experience using AI tools or demonstrate a willingness to learn and apply them in their role.
Experience- Previous experience using sewing machines within a textile, clothing, upholstery or manufacturing environment.
- Experience completing practical sewing activities accurately and consistently, ideally including lock stitch, over locking or binding.
- Able to work from supplied samples, patterns and written Manufacturing Instructions.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to inspect completed work and identify quality concerns.
- Able to complete precise manual sewing activities safely and consistently, with reasonable adjustments where appropriate.
- Able to understand written and verbal instructions in English, as the role involves safety requirements,
- Manufacturing Instructions and accurate record keeping.
- Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a busy production team.
- Able to record production and traceability information accurately.
- Experience using heavy duty or industrial sewing machines.
- Experience sewing technical fabrics, protective materials or products requiring high standards of quality and traceability.
- Experience working to production targets within a manufacturing environment.
