Role Description

The Automotive Engine Machinist role is a full-time, on-site position based at Chesman Motorsport’s facility in Coventry. The successful candidate will perform precision machining operations on engine components, including milling, turning, boring, honing, using mainly manual machines. Day-to-day tasks include measuring and inspecting parts, setting up machines, boring, honing, turning and ensuring all work meets strict performance and quality standards. The role involves collaborating closely with fellow engineers and members of the team.

Qualifications
  • Strong experience in engine machining, including operation of manual machine tools, and familiarity with performance or motor sport engines. (CNC/Hurco experience advantageous)
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, engineering specifications, and measurement data using tools such as micrometers, dial gauges, and calipers.
  • Solid understanding of machining processes, materials, tolerances, and finishing techniques, with a focus on precision and quality control.
  • Knowledge of workshop safety practices, machine maintenance, and efficient workflow organization in an engine machine shop environment.
  • Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in machining, automotive engineering, or a related field; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, communicate clearly, and manage time effectively in a busy workshop.
  • Experience in motor sport, performance tuning, or high-performance automotive builds is highly beneficial.
