Machine Tool Fitter

Location:

Coventry
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum

Hours:

Monday to Thursday, 07:30 - 16:00;
Friday, 07:30 - 15:00
Travel:
Some overseas travel required

The Opportunity

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Multi-Skilled Machine Tool Fitter to join a well-established precision machine tool manufacturer in Coventry.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building and assembling complex machine tools from engineering and assembly drawings.
  • Installing, maintaining and repairing mechanical systems and components.
  • Precision fitting of bearings and assembling components to tight tolerances.
  • Hand scraping mating faces to achieve the correct alignment and fit.
  • Completing drilling, tapping and general sub-assembly work.
  • Installing, testing and calibrating pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Fitting machine pipework, cabling, switches, sensors and motors.
  • Completing sheet metal cutting and general fitting tasks.
  • Using toolroom machinery, including lathes, mills and grinders.
  • Operating lifting equipment, including overhead cranes and slings.
  • Carrying out customer service visits when required.
About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Ideally, at least four years’ experience in machine tool building or complex mechanical assembly.
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience working to tight tolerances within a precision engineering environment.
  • Strong mechanical fitting and assembly skills.
  • Good problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a quality-focused approach.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good time‑management skills and the ability to prioritise workloads.
  • A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
  • A full driving licence.
  • A forklift licence would be desirable but is not essential.
