Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse

Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Diabetes team as a Specialist Nurse. The service cares for approximately 250 children and young people aged 0-19 years. This is a fixed‑term contract for 12 months covering 37.5 hours per week, requiring flexibility to meet the service demands. The position is based at UHCW and operates across two hospital sites serving Coventry and Rugby.

• Provide expert advice to children and young people with diabetes and their families in both community and hospital settings.
• Act as a professional resource for the multidisciplinary team and support ward staff through education and delivery of a mandatory training programme.
• Deliver home visits, school support, and other community activities across the two hospital sites.
• Support patients through the transition from child to adolescent clinics, ensuring continuity of care.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of diabetes management guidelines and share best practice with the team.
• Travel between sites as required.

• Essential experience working with children and young people with diabetes.
• Strong leadership qualities, excellent communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to inspire and educate patients and families.
• Motivation to learn and contribute to service development and enhancement.
• Ability to travel between sites.
• Successful applicant must provide an immunisation and vaccination report from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

• Secondment will be considered for internal candidates. If successful after interview, you must obtain approval from your current line manager to accept the offer.
• Registration and registration status appropriate for a Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse are required.
