Family Support Practitioner - Coventry

Part-Time | 12-Month Fixed Term Contract

Hours:

18.5 hours per week
Salary: £12,602 per annum

Coventry (community-based with some office attendance)

About the Role

An established community-based service is seeking a compassionate and skilled Family Support Practitioner to provide targeted support to children, families, and individuals experiencing vulnerability, domestic abuse, and complex social challenges.

The role focuses on early intervention, safeguarding, and practical family support, working collaboratively with partner agencies to improve outcomes and promote long-term stability, safety, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

Family Support & Casework

Manage a caseload of children and families requiring early help and targeted intervention
Deliver one-to-one practical and emotional support to parents, carers, and families
Complete needs assessments, risk assessments, and support plans, reviewing progress regularly
Support families to access housing, benefits, education, health, and community-based services
Promote resilience, independence, and positive outcomes for children and families

Safeguarding & Multi-Agency Working

Identify, respond to, and escalate safeguarding concerns in line with local and national procedures
Work collaboratively with Social Care, Early Help, schools, health professionals, and voluntary-sector partners
Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings, reviews, and case discussions
Maintain professional boundaries while building trusting, respectful relationships with families

Referral, Assessment & Intervention

Act as a point of contact for referrals where required
Undertake assessments and ensure timely onward referrals to appropriate services
Provide short- to medium-term interventions aimed at reducing risk and improving family functioning

Equality, Diversity & Safeguarding

Provide a service that is inclusive, non-discriminatory, and culturally sensitive
Support women from Black and minoritised ethnic communities, including those with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) and women facing complex barriers
Follow safeguarding policies and procedures to protect children, vulnerable adults, and individuals at risk of harm Administration & Reporting

Maintain accurate, confidential case records in line with GDPR and organisational policies
Complete monitoring data, reports, and documentation within agreed timescales
Contribute to service evaluation, outcome monitoring, and quality improvement

Person Specification

Essential

Experience working with children and families in a support, social care, or community setting
Sound understanding of safeguarding children and early intervention frameworks
Ability to manage a varied caseload and work independently
Strong communication, engagement, and report-writing skills
Commitment to equality, diversity, and anti-discriminatory practice
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable

Experience supporting families affected by domestic abuse or complex needs
Knowledge of multi-agency working and referral pathways
Relevant qualification (or equivalent experience) in family support, social care, or a related field
Ability to speak an additional community language

Flexibility Clause

In order to deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is required. The post holder may be required to undertake duties not specifically referred to in this job description; however, such duties will fall within the scope of the role at the appropriate grade.
