Helpline Practitioner – Domestic Abuse Services

Location: Coventry

Salary: £12,602 per annum

Hours: 18.5 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

Working Pattern: Saturday & Sunday: 10:00am – 1:00pm;
Monday: 9:00am – 5:00pm

Make a Difference When It Matters Most

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Helpline Practitioner to join our specialist Domestic Abuse Service. This is a rewarding opportunity to provide vital support, information and advocacy to individuals experiencing domestic abuse, forced marriage, honour-based abuse and other forms of gender-based violence.

As the first point of contact for callers, you will offer a safe, confidential and non‑judgemental service, helping victims and survivors explore their options, reduce risk and access the support they need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to helpline calls from victims, survivors, professionals and members of the public.
  • Provide emotional support, practical advice and information in a calm, empathetic and empowering manner.
  • Assess risk and identify appropriate support options for callers.
  • Support both female and male victims aged 16 and over.
  • Make referrals to specialist domestic abuse services, refuges, housing providers and other relevant agencies.
  • Advocate on behalf of service users where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records using the case management system.
  • Work closely with safeguarding agencies and respond appropriately to child and adult protection concerns.
  • Contribute to service monitoring, evaluation and reporting requirements.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision sessions and ongoing professional development.
About You
  • A good standard of education.
  • Experience working within domestic abuse, violence against women and girls, honour‑based abuse, forced marriage or related support services.
  • Strong knowledge of domestic abuse legislation, safeguarding and referral pathways.
  • Excellent listening, communication and telephone support skills.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and supporting vulnerable individuals.
  • Strong administration and record‑keeping abilities.
  • The ability to work independently and manage a varied workload in a sometimes challenging environment.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity and anti‑discriminatory practice.
Desirable Skills
  • Ability to speak one or more community languages, including Hindi, Mirpuri, Pashto, Somali or other relevant community languages.
