The Housing and Homelessness Service is a very busy environment and faces several challenges to meet the housing needs of citizens of Coventry. The team have grown significantly during the last 12 months and this reflects the fact that Housing & Homelessness are now a key council priority.

The team are responsible for the delivery of the following service functions:

Provision of the statutory homeless service

Provision of temporary accommodation

Management of the housing register

Co-ordination of support to citizens rough sleeping

Commissioning of homeless services, and

Responsibility for housing strategy

The Council has a strategic vision that is clearly set out in both the Housing & Homelessness and the Rough Sleeping Strategies which were both approved in 2019.

By becoming part of an expanding team who are focused on preventing households from becoming homeless as well as providing tailored support and interventions when someone does become homeless this is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to some of the most vulnerable people in our city.

As a Social Worker, you will be responsible for undertaking Care Act assessments, completing strengths-based reviews, managing a complex caseload, and developing outcome-focused support plans for adults with care and support needs. You will work assertively and creatively to engage individuals who may be difficult to reach or reluctant to access services, helping them to sustain accommodation, improve wellbeing, reduce risk, and achieve greater independence.

The role involves safeguarding vulnerable adults, advocating on behalf of individuals, and working closely with housing providers, health services, substance misuse teams, community organisations, and Adult Social Care colleagues to achieve positive outcomes.

You will play a key role within Coventry's homelessness pathway, ensuring that adults with care and support needs receive timely assessments and access to appropriate services. Through a person-centred and trauma-informed approach, you will support individuals to overcome barriers, prevent crisis, and move towards stable and sustainable futures.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

We are seeking a passionate and proactive Social Worker to support adults experiencing homelessness, rough sleeping, housing instability and multiple disadvantage.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of Adult Social Care legislation and be confident working with individuals who have complex needs, including poor physical health, substance misuse, self-neglect, trauma and chaotic lifestyles. You will be skilled at building trust with people who may be reluctant to engage and committed to achieving positive outcomes through a strengths-based approach.
