Embedded Software​/Firmware Engineer

PDSL is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join our engineering team at the PDSL Knowledge Centre, Warwick Science Park, Coventry
.

This role is ideal for a graduate or early-career engineer looking to build hands‑on experience in embedded software development, firmware, microcontrollers and hardware/software integration.

You will support the development, testing, debugging and validation of embedded systems using C/C++, working across both bare‑metal and RTOS‑based applications
.

• Develop and maintain embedded software using C and C++.
• Support firmware development for microcontroller‑based systems.
• Develop and debug bare‑metal and RTOS applications
  .
• Implement and troubleshoot I2C, SPI, UART and CAN communication.
• Support hardware/software integration, testing and fault investigation.
• Read electronic schematics, specifications and component datasheets.
• Use debugging tools such as GDB, JTAG and SWD
  .
• Use logic analysers and oscilloscopes to diagnose integration issues.
• Produce clear technical documentation and work collaboratively with wider engineering teams.

We are looking for candidates with:

• Good knowledge of Embedded C and C++.
• Experience with at least one microcontroller platform such as STM
  32, NXP, Microchip, AVR or ESP
  32
  .
• Understanding of RTOS and bare‑metal development
  .
• Knowledge of I2C, SPI, UART and CAN
  .
• Ability to read electronic schematics and datasheets.
• Familiarity with embedded debugging and laboratory test equipment.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.

This role is particularly suitable for candidates with 0–3 years of experience
.

The successful candidate will be based at the PDSL Knowledge Centre, Warwick Science Park, Coventry, UK and must be able to work from this location as required.
