Work Location: Training Ground (cover across 2 other sites may be required)
Hours: 40 hours (must be prepared to work anti‑social hours and weekends)
An exciting opportunity is available for Coventry City Football Club to recruit a Skilled Sports Turf Operative. The successful candidate will work within the department to manage daily operations and maintenance of the first‑team training pitches and surrounding landscapes. Reporting to the Head of Grounds, the role requires at least 2–3 years’ experience in grounds maintenance, preferably within a professional football club or similar sports facility.
Professional development is encouraged.
- Liaising with the Deputy Head of Grounds and the rest of the team daily
- Preparation and maintenance of hybrid pitch surfaces, including but not limited to:
- Grass cutting
- Marking out
- Re‑seeding
- Spraying of chemicals
- Fertiliser application
- Verti‑cutting
- Brushing
- Control of irrigation system
- Application of frost sheets
- General maintenance of workshop and machinery, ensuring all tools and equipment are stored safely and maintained in good working order
- Compliance with statutory record‑keeping and internal procedures relating to pitch preparation and maintenance
- Horticultural work around surrounding car parks, if required
- Maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of the industry
- NVQ Level 2 Horticulture/Sports Turf or equivalent qualification
- PA spraying experience
- Good communication skills and the ability to carry out instructions
- Ability to work as part of a team but also independently with good initiative
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Self‑motivated with a positive attitude
- Ability to multitask and prioritise appropriately
- NVQ Level 3 Sports Turf or equivalent qualification
- PA1/PA2/PA6A spraying qualification or equivalent
- Experience working within football on championship/premiership pitches
- Inspiring team and creating a positive working environment
- Participation in training activities as required by manager
