6th Grade Homeroom Teacher Position

JOB DESCRIPTION
Sacred Heart is looking for a full time grade 6 homeroom teacher with experience teaching the subject areas of grade level math, ELA subjects, science, social studies and religion. The candidate must demonstrate experience in research-based and grade level appropriate instructional strategies in all areas of grade 6 curriculum.

Sacred Heart’s goal is to prepare our 6th grade students for academic success in junior high as we continue to meet our students’ learning needs for their future success in high school and to provide instruction that allows our students to apply their curriculum knowledge to be applicable for successful employment in problem solving practical, real-life applications. To foster this goal, this position also requires our 6th grade homeroom teacher to plan and supervise curriculum based field trips for 6th grade students.
All Sacred Heart full time teachers are expected to attend faculty, department, and grade-level meetings. SHS teachers are assigned supervision duties during and after school and participate in faith formation activities, including masses, prayer services, staff retreats, and student retreats.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Teaches six middle school core subject areas and manage the daily duties of a homeroom teacher.
• Instruction follows standards-based (California state and Archdiocesan) curriculum.
• Creates and submits lesson plans following the weekly faculty calendar schedule.
• Utilizes Gradelink to maintain grades, attendance, and other school records.
• Provides regular communication with students, their families, and the school administration concerning student progress.
• Participates and collaborates with other grade level educators in monthly Professional Learning Communities (PLC’s) to evaluate, monitor, and update curriculum, assessment, and provide academic support to students.

Qualifications:

• Experience teaching middle school curriculum at the upper elementary school level; preferably working with middle-school aged junior high level students.
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required. A multi subject teaching credential or single subject credential in math, science or ELA core subject areas is preferred as well as experience and/or credential in upper elementary or high school level math or science
  -related field.
• Prefer prior teaching experience in a Catholic educational setting.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
