Job Description: Secondary Curriculum & Instruction Specialist for English/Language Arts
REPORTS TO:
Director of Teaching & Learning CONTRACT DAYS: 215 JOB GOAL:
The primary function of the Secondary Curriculum and Instruction Specialist is to enhance the quality of educational services offered to students.
- Holds a Valid Georgia Certification at the T-5 level or higher
- Has a minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a 6-12 classroom setting
- Possess leadership experience at the school or system level
- Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrates ability to attend to details and to efficiently multi-task
- Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs
- Demonstrates knowledge of Georgia Standards of Excellence
- Demonstrates knowledge of research-based instructional strategies
- Demonstrates ability to model and assist teachers in implementing instructional strategies in the designated content area
- Demonstrates knowledge of available instructional interventions and the ability to supervise and evaluate their effective implementation
- Demonstrates ability to interpret and implement federal laws, state rules, and local policies
- Demonstrates an ability to collect, analyze, and interpret qualitative and quantitative data
- Demonstrates professional interpersonal skills with school staff, central office staff, parents/guardians, students, and community
- Demonstrates ability to work with limited supervision
- Demonstrates an excellent attendance record
- Supports instructional programs and services provided to all Title I schools
- Supports Georgia Standards of Excellence implementation and aids in the training of the appropriate and effective use of research-based instructional strategies
- Supports teachers in building background knowledge for students to aid in their acquisition of the Georgia Standards of Excellence
- Supports teachers in increasing the use of instructional technology as an essential instructional tool
- Provides support and structure for codification, implementation, and sharing of best practices across within and schools through the school-level Professional Learning Communities
- Develops and assists in the implementation of professional learning opportunities to enhance teacher effectiveness in the delivery of the Georgia Standards of Excellence
- Maintains accurate and current information of program activities and prepares reports as requested
- Facilitates effective instructional progress monitoring and data collection utilizing results to impact academic achievement
- Provides intensive instructional support services for schools in Needs Improvement Status
- Attends professional learning opportunities that support the role of instructional facilitator
- Works cooperatively with school leaders, teachers, parents/guardians, and students to effectively implement program activities
- Communicates effectively the district’s purpose to align teaching practices to learning
- Focuses on relationships among school(s), customers, and stakeholders
- Perform other assigned duties
