Job Description Summary
Staff level Mechanical Engineer in BD UCC’s research & development Integrated Systems department. The role focuses on designing electro‑mechanical reusable/capital medical devices from concept through design freeze, fostering innovation in the med‑tech industry.
Job DescriptionBD is a global leader in medical technology. As a Design Engineer you will work on multidisciplinary teams, collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners, and execute all phases of New Product Development (NPD). The position requires extensive experience in medical device and capital equipment design.
Responsibilities- Design electro‑mechanical reusable/capital medical devices from concept through design freeze.
- Participate on a technical team of engineers and designers.
- Engage effectively with internal and external clients such as sales, marketing, regulatory, quality assurance, manufacturing, procurement, and engineering teams.
- Travel domestically and internationally to support NPD efforts.
- Create design documentation including user needs assessments, design specifications, test plans, risk analysis reports, and technical files.
- Perform testing and evaluate developments at the bench and in clinical environments.
- Collaborate with vendors and contract manufacturers to develop and test prototypes, ensuring seamless execution.
- Participate on cross‑functional project teams, encouraging a cooperative and diverse environment.
- Negotiate with suppliers and manage external resources to complete projects on time and within budget.
- Direct technicians and mentor junior engineers and designers.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience in electro‑mechanical capital equipment design.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and technical documents.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively through ambiguity.
- Knowledge of FDA and ISO regulations.
- Domestic and international travel required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Strong preference for experience in the medical device industry.
