This is a night shift position (7p–7a) with block scheduling offered whenever possible. While block scheduling can’t always be guaranteed, the leadership team works to accommodate it. Alternate scheduling options, such as “two and a leg,” can also be requested.
About the Role
This is a NICU-primary role with flexibility to float to the adult side as needed, providing a well-rounded mix of neonatal and adult respiratory care experience. The position involves performing patient assessments, managing ventilators and critical care procedures, providing respiratory support for newborns in Labor and Delivery, analyzing and interpreting blood gases, maintaining respiratory equipment, and educating patients and families.
The NICU features 20 licensed beds (occasionally flexing up to 25) and is poised to grow into a NICU hub in the future. The Respiratory Director has been with the organization for over 20 years and leads a highly experienced team of about 40 professionals.
Culture and Collaboration
A key strength of this department is the longstanding collaboration between respiratory therapists, nursing staff, and the neonatology group, which has also been established for more than two decades. There’s a strong sense of trust, respect, and teamwork across disciplines.
A major selling point of this role is the level of autonomy therapists have. Respiratory professionals here work closely and directly with the neonatology team, taking part in hands‑on procedures such as intubation and drawing blood
. Therapists are encouraged to think critically and act proactively, collaborating with providers on patient‑care decisions rather than waiting for orders.
