Laundry Aide HCC

Tends laundering machines to clean sheets, blankets, pillow coverings, and personal articles of patients. Loads articles into the washer, adds the specified amount of detergent or other cleaning agents, lifts clean wet articles from the washer, and places them successively into the wringer and dryer for measured time cycles. Sorts dry articles according to identification numbers or type, and folds and places items in the appropriate storage bin.

• Folds and sorts laundry (blankets, sheets, towels, etc.) and personal clothing items.
• Hangs clothes on racks according to name and numbers.
• Delivers patient/resident laundry to designated areas.
• Ensures patient/resident clothing is ready to wear, not in disrepair, and put in proper place.
• Understands functions of various soaps and bleaches.
• Follows precautions as stated on MSDS for all chemicals used.
• Washes and dries clothes and linens.
• Keeps equipment clean and follows cleaning schedules.
• Maintains a clean and organized area; sweeps and mops laundry area.
• Reports any needed repairs to the maintenance department.
• Operates large filters according to established schedules.
• Ensures proper handling of soiled laundry items.
• Cleans and disinfects linen carts as required per policy and procedure.
• Empties washers and dryers as requested/necessary.
• Operates water, gas, and electric cutoff switches and valves.
• Understands the proper process for stain removal.

High School Degree preferred.

On-the-job training provided.

Previous experience in healthcare laundering processes.
