POSITION SUMMARY

Performs a variety of routine semi-skilled maintenance for school system facilities; ensures that facilities are available for use and consistently maintained. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical trades work. Operates a variety of maintenance tools and equipment; and performs related work as required. All work is performed under the general supervision of the Facilities Coordinator and plays a vital role in providing reliable and high-quality service in support of school system objectives.

ESSENTIAL

DUTIES
  • Performs all assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Uses all equipment properly and safely.
  • Repairs and/or replaces doors, locks, and hardware of all types.
  • Repairs floors, walls, ceilings, and other similar areas.
  • Performs all types of carpentry work as required.
  • Repairs or assemble furniture and equipment.
  • Be responsible for all tools and equipment as assigned.
  • Performs all general electrical and plumbing tasks as assigned.
  • Maintains accurate records and completes all information required on work orders.
  • Maintains work areas and assigned fleet vehicle clean on a daily basis.
  • Complies with all policies and procedures and regulations as set forth by the Board of Education, Division of Operations, and building codes.
  • Provides and adapts cross-training as instructed.
  • Performs preventive maintenance as required.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on playground equipment.
  • This position may be on-call for work after hours and on weekends as needed.
  • Conveys a positive image of the school system.
  • Assists with District special events, as needed.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid professional trade license as issued by the State of Georgia in a related field (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or low voltage).
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license and safe driving record.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the operation, repair, and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
  • Knowledge of operational characteristics of a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of record-keeping.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices for providing a high level of customer service.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications.
  • Ability to perform semi-skilled facility maintenance.
  • Ability to safely and effectively use, operate, and maintain equipment and tools.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply all pertinent laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines and follow up on assignments.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Customer-focused and results-driven.
  • Professional and positive attitude and demeanor.
ESSENTIAL

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting. Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds may be required. Ascending or descending ladders, using feet/legs and/or hands/arms. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas; visual acuity is required for diagnosing and repairing maintenance and mechanical problems; the employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, and chemicals.
